The entire series; which includes The Tawney Man Trilogy and the Fitz And The Fool Trilogy; covers the life story of Fitzchivalry Farseer, bastard son of Prince Chivalry Farseer. Abandoned by his original family to the care of the Farseers, six year old Fitz is given over to the Stablemaster; Burrich; to raise. Once Fitz comes to the attention of King Shrewd, it is decided that Fitz needs to be put to a useful purpose, so he is sent to Chade Fallstar; another Farseer bastard; and trained to be an assassin. The first three books follow Fitz as he grows into manhood, practices his art as an assassin, and gets to know the residents of the castle. His special friend is the Fool, and much of what takes place in these books, centers around that friendship. There are two magic systems in this story; the Wit and the Skill. Fitz possesses them both. The Wit allows the user to develop a companion bond to an animal, and indeed, people who possess the Wit cannot help but be drawn to make a bond. Yet, the Wit is is discouraged and socially offensive to non users. For me the fantasy world is so compelling that I really want to read the books at the exclusion of everything else.
