You may need to peel off the tile to get to the substrate. But it seems you need to find the source of the leak first then use this product as part of the repair. **Q: what tape to use?** A: I used the mesh tape for Durock and went over all joints with the mortar mix I planned to use installing my tiles. Let the mortar dry completely. Then, just follow the directions on the bucket. I tackled a shower surround with two large niches for my first tile job. This bucket was plenty for two coats on everything as well as a section on the floor in front of the shower. Great product and easy to use. Be sure to follow the directions carefully. **Q: I have cement subfloor in my shower . Can I use this instead of a shower pan liner?** A: Hi, A liner would be preferable, but this membrane will work too, assuming the concrete is stable, there is a natural slope to the drain and there are no breaches. If you use a Durock shower installation kit it adds a natural slope to a center drain installation.
