Use an optical sight without modifying the 1911
Unlike some other mounts for optical sites, the Aimtech Scope Mount lets you install an optical site without modification of the frame or slide. It anchors solidly to the frame using screws that replace the hammer pin and the mainspring pin (they are really pins with threaded ends that hold the Aimtech). The kit comes with a hex key to tighten these pin screws. The grip screws don't hold it in place, but they can be installed so you don't lose them. Same thickness as a standard grip panel so there was no change in how I grip the pistol. It is quite sturdy and will take a pretty good whack (or drop) to knock it out of alighment; I've removed it, then later replaced it with no change in the zero. The rail sits high so the iron sites remain usable. The slide can be removed, though it takes something smaller than my finger top push out the slide lock. The ejection port is covered when the slide is in battery but the port clears the mount when it comes back for ejection; I have had no jams or trapped brass in over 300 rounds. There are at least 3 drawbacks, none-the-less. One is removal of the slide lock; if the hole were larger or counter-sunk it could be pushed out with a finger rather than a stick, pen, or punch. Also, the mount does not work with an ambi safety. I suppose the right-side half of the safety could be removed (you must remove the safety anyway to replace the hammer pin). The biggest drawback is the only way to rack the slide is to sling-shot it. The more solid hand-over-the-slide technique just doesn't work, even with front slide serrations; the mount gets in the way. But then, the mount is for target (Bullseye) and not combat shooting.

This mount can work, maybe
If you are wanting to use this mount to scope a .45 ACP, it will probably do a good job. I tried to use it on a 1911 converted to .460 Rowland, and took it off and returned it. The term "no gunsmithing needed" can be a warning. Trying to use the pins included to secure the mount involves having to take two of the original pins out and replace them. When I did this with the pin holding the trigger, I ended up at my gunsmith to get it back in operating shape. You CAN attach it failrt securely with just the screws that will hold it to the grip, but this method will not stand up to heavy recoil.

Rock solid mount for my AMT Longslide target pistol. Nothing else out there compares-no modifications necessary to the gun, so collector value is preserved. Easily a 5 star product. The only problem is while this mount replaces the grip panel on the right side, there is no matching panel for the left side, so your pistol ends up with mismatched grips. I called Aimtech and suggested offering a matching left hand grip, and they couldn't have cared less. 4 Stars for that.

The Aimtech works much better on the frame and target acquisition w/ the scope ...
Fits perfectly on my Springfield 1911 Mil Spec .45. I previously had a picatinny scope base on the slide. After firing a round, the scope and slide would recycle a round and I had a very difficult time getting back on the target with the scope. The Aimtech works much better on the frame and target acquisition w/ the scope is much faster with this setup than with the scope on the slide. With my Ultra Dot scope on the Aimtech mount, it's so easy hitting steel targets quickly at 50 yards with this combo. Love this setup!

Received the item really fast. When I first looked at it I thought that I would have problems with the ejecting part but after shooting about 200 rounds of 230 gr. I had no problem.

Sure makes load-testing for accuracy easier.
Note that you will either have to remove the right side of an ambidexterous safety to make this fit, or cut the mount down,
