Thank goodness this is available on dvd, because I have no idea when, or even if, this series will be shown on British television. I have adored Diana Gabaldon's books for years, hoping against hope that they would eventually be brought to the screen.....and here it is! I am beside myself with impatience waiting for the next series to be finished, broadcast, then distributed on dvd....I may have to start reading the books all over again (for the 4th time) to alleviate my suffering. Buy this boxed set....you won't regret it. It comes beautifully packaged, with loads of extras and commentaries by the actors and crew on every disc. You will want to watch it all in one sitting, which you could, if you didn't eat or sleep for a day or two!! Fabulous. Review: Authentic Scotland - Apart from the excellent acting, genuine Scots dialogue (and even Gaelic), the photography of the beautiful Scottish wilderness (complete with rain) and the realistic costumes make this an outstanding series. In fact I think it's the only film I've ever seen with authentic pre-1815 kilts!!!, and shirts that become dirty. Maybe this seems a strange thing to praise, but when I think of -- for example -- the movie where Christopher Columbus & crew, after weeks at sea, go ashore in gleaming white shirts like a washing-powder advert... was SO ridiculously impossible, it spoiled the whole concept. That kind of thing doesn't happen in Outlander. The Collector's Edition included deleted scenes, which were well worth seeing as they added to the story. The cut-outs of fluffed lines etc were fun. (By their mistakes shall you recognise gifted actors.) The casting is so good in bringing such a hero to life - not easy as he is well described in the book but everything about the series is really excellent. Attention to detail with costumes & beautiful scenery too - we can't wait for series 2 to come out! Even if you haven't read the books it is well worth watching - we are all feeling a bit bereft now we have seen them all & going back to reading the books again!!
