It shows a clear picture of the bird on the left side, and description on the right side. It also has a very clear color indicator on each page on the top right, based on what color the bird is, so you can easily descript a bird as soon as you see the color of them. It has a table of context, and dedicates about six pages of information of Michigan, birds, how to spot birds, nests and what types of birds make what types of nests.My favorite things to recognize about this book- the size is perfect to fit in a picnic bag or purse. The pictures are clear, and the descriptions and information are clear and well written. I love the color indicator and I can't wait until spring to test it out.My least favorite things to recognize about this book- like other reviews said, it does mention having an audio that is supposed to come with it, and I did not get it. I did buy the book second-hand though, and my main focus was the book alone and not the CD, so I am not disappointed but I think I should mention, you might not get the audio either if you buy second hand.Overall- this book is great! I would reccomend it to all expert birders, and all newbie birders. This would be great for kids who are interested in birds, and if you're older with bad eyesight, it would be great with reading glasses! Happy birding! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very handy go to guide for birds *by J***N on Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2019* This compact field guide is well written and laid out. Good color pics of male and female species (when there's a difference). Nice concise details of each species. I'm not a true "go out in the woods" bird watcher but wanted something to help me ID birds at my feeder. This book has been great and allowed me to ID numerous birds that were new to me. I think I'll eventually purchase a full-size book but this will do for now; great size for people who want to carry it into the field as well. Very recommended! ### ⭐⭐⭐ Disappointed that some birds are missing and it references a cd that doesn't come with it for the price *by R***T on Reviewed in the United States on July 11, 2016* all book with minimal information other than statistics; I would expect a book like this to cost less since it didn't come with the CD that it is referencing throughout the pages where it says where on the cd you could find the "call" of the bird. (Seems like this would come with the cd, since having the book come without the cd and referencing the cd in the book doesn't make sense to me) I like that it's color coded but I don't find it to be entirely accurate. For example, our common seagulls are with white heads....that's not their major color. This book is supposedly sorting the birds by their main color; and the seagull is in the white section. The mourning dove, which I would consider gray, is in the brown section. I was looking for what type of birds I saw recently; they were in a flock and all fluttering around over the river at this waterfall area, clearly eating insects. They looked very similar to cedar waxwings in coloring but did not have the crest. They flew like swallows. I watch birds all the time and do not see them anywhere else and have never seen them before. I was really hopeful this book would help; but I looked through the entire thing and didn't see those birds. :( I'm not sure if they're there and just look different in a book, or if the book is missing some of the less common birds. It does have all those that I have seen at my feeders and more, but it seems like some are missing; whip-poor-will for example. Just not worth the price, especially given there is no cd and it is referencing the cd throughout the book on the pages and in the reference also.
