### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Perfect Base For Parrot Chop
*by S***. on November 24, 2019*

Soak and Simmer is the very best cooked mix to feed and to embellish with fresh veggies and fruits. Unlike some of the other cook and serve products that contained hulled rice and/or couscous, etc., this product is not sticky and so will not foul the cage and your bird's feathers. Please don't underestimate the importance of this fact-- Sticky, cooked grain products can lead to sticky feathers and that leads to skin irritation and infections and Feather Picking!. On this note, I want to point out that Soak And Simmer contains rice in the hull. This is a well thought out feature. The hull keeps each grain wrapped and fresh and non-sticky and budgies, small conures and cockatiels love to de-hull grains with their beaks. Another well thought out feature is that this product does not contain dehydrated veggies or fruits like some products. The soaking and simmering process of products containing such components get mushy and unappetizing. Volkman's put together a combination of beans and grains of the appropriate size such that they all soak and simmer at the same rate so the result is an evenly cooked and non-sticky feed. I make the whole bag at once and freeze portions. I thaw portions and mix with chopped lettuce, apple, squash, etc. I cook sweet potatoes separately and dice to add as well. My conures, Noble Macaw and budgies love this mix. Obviously, the budgies primarily eat the wheat berries and rice but occasionally they will bite into a bean. Although there is a small amount of hard corn in this mix that softens when cooked, I like to add some thawed fresh corn. The budgies sometimes like to eat the fresh corn. I also cook black lentils separately and occasionally add to my parrot chop as well. In conclusion, this is the best product on the market for feeding cooked legumes and grains to pet parrots of all sizes and serves as the perfect base for adding fresh chopped veggies.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ GREAT PRODUCT
*by D***1 on October 14, 2016*

THIS PRODUCT IS FABULOUS!!!!! My soon-to-be-24-year-old sun conure tasted this food for the first time last week, and he LOVES it!! Rico has always eaten a pretty good diet . . . pellets, a good seed mix (also from Volkman), fruit and veggies. But his Avian Vet recently suggested I reduce, and perhaps eliminate, his seed intake (to reduce the risk of stroke or heart attack in a senior age bird). Easier said than done. Rico really looked forward seed serving each day . . . UNTIL he tasted Featherglow Fancy Soak and Simmer. I soaked and cooked according to the directions, adding nothing to it. I'll admit I was skeptical, but that first morning, he literally dove into the dish, and he has done that every morning for the past week. And I find the most astounding part of this is that NOT ONE BIT OF IT ends up on the cage floor! Rico is as playful as ever and seems more energetic. Side benefit: now that Rico is eating little to no seed, he is calmer and more content (sometimes we don't know what we've been missing!).

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Wow! My birds actually loved it! I definitely recommend this healthy mix.

This sprouting mix is awesome! After following the directions, i put 2 tablespoons of Featherglow on a few sheets of paper towel and my cockatiel instantly came out of the cage and started munching on this. I then put some of my parakeets on top of the cage and they started testing out all of the different flavors and textures. While some birds liked it more than others, i can say this was a win! And sprouting mixes for birds are some of the healthiest items you can feed them, so i definitely recommend buying this one.For anyone wondering how i made this,4 tablespoons of Featherglow sprouting mix in a clean plastic container. Fill with cold tap water until sprouts are submerged.Let sprouts sit for 8-10 hours, then transfer sprouts over to a strainer and strain the water out. Rinse the sprouts for ~60 seconds in cold water.Take 8 tablespoons of water (double the amount of sprout mix) and let boil. Add the sprouts when the water starts to boil. When you add the sprouts, they will make the water temporarily stop boiling. Wait a few minutes until the water starts boiling again, and then reduce the heat. Stir every minute or so.After 3-4 mintues, i take the spoon that i stir the sprouts with and scoop up one of the bean sprouts. I feel it with my fingers and decide if its the right amount of "mushiness".Transfer the sprouts back into the strainer and strain the water out. Let the sprouts sit in the strainer for 10 minutes in order to cool off.I give the sprouts one final rinse (you can never be too safe with birds, lol) and serve either on a flat surface like i did or you can partially fill your birds normal food dish with them (do NOT mix the sprouts with your birds normal food!)TIP: I don't recommend leaving the sprouts out for more than an hour. Bacteria may start to grow or bugs may start eating the sprouts if you leave them out for too long. Find out the right amount of sprouting mix that your bird(s) will eat and serve that amount once a day. You can always make a bigger batch and refrigerate the rest in a sealed off container. I plan to give this to my birds 4-5 times a week for breakfast. This food is very healthy for birds, but should not be fed for more than 50% of their daily diet.Happy sprouting! 🦜🦜🦜
