I purchased this as a paperback first. You need to photo-enlarge the pattern pieces. The first animal I made was the rabbit. It is not easy. There are small fiddly pieces and tight turns. I found that hand basting, instead of pin basting is preferable. That being said, I am HOOKED!!!. The challenge is part of the fun. In addition to the rabbit, I have made the horse and the fox. I am currently working on the elephant. The patterns are great. It is amazing to take two dimensional pieces of fabric and make an amazing 3-D piece. I would not recommend this book the a beginning sewer. But if you are familiar with following instructions and have sewn a variety of objects, I highly recommend this book. I scan in the pattern to my PC, I then go in and crop the page to be the exact size of the page. Meaning when I scan the page in I also get the free space from my scanner; I crop that out. Then using a free online PDF maker (I use smallpdfdotcom) I make a pdf, save to computer, then print at 200%, POSTER. SEE a screen capture I've uploaded to show what my printer pop up looks like. I put off buying this book for so long because I thought I couldn't make these complicated animal heads. Even though I am an accomplished sewer the eyes on these made me think I couldn't do it. I finally bought this book and can't believe I waited so long! I'm not going to say these are easy but if you mark all your pieces and read and re read the instructions you can do it.
