Increase your lung capacity with the Voldyne volumetric exerciser! This unit measures the volume of air you inspire and shows you how effectively you are filling your lungs with each inhalation. Used properly and regularly, the Breath Builder will increase the amount of air you inhale and can use in a wind instrument. It will enable you to increase the volume and pressure of air you use while playing. This should result in increased volume and greater control. At all times, attempt to take in and expel the largest amount of air you possibly can. This will often entail using your abdominal and some other muscles more complete than you ever have before. Leaving all holes open, raise the ball and keep it suspended while you inhale and exhale thoroughly through the Breathe Builder for one or two minutes. Take a break of thirty seconds to one minute (or longer if needed.). Close the large hole and repeat process described in number 1 above. Take another break of similar length or as needed. With all holes open, raise the ball to its suspended stand and close the large and one small hole while keeping the ball suspended as in 1 and 2 above. Continue the inhalation/exhalation process for one to two minutes with the hole closed. Because of the greater pressure required both inhaling and exhaling with the large and one small hole closed, this configuration is the most valuable to increased breath control. Stop using the Breath Builder and rest any time that you feel dizzy or become disoriented. This is the result of taking in more oxygen than your body is used to handling. This condition will abate you as you use the Breath Builder regularly. If you take a break of two or more hours, use the Breath Builder again (as above) at the beginning of your practice session.

Its called a Spirometer...and it helps!
Bought this for my father who was starting to recover from a terrible illness that weakened everything....including his diaphragm. Coughing and deep breathing was difficult for him...i looked everywhere- goulds....pharmacies....walmart....all placed either needed a "perscription" or the didnt carry them. The pharmacist suggested i check on amazon and viola! Here it was! Happy to report this helped my father on his road to recovery and he is doing fine now!

Amazed
I love this Breath Builder. It has helped me to have much better control of my asthma. Someone told me about one that they had tried but I tried this one and I am simply amazed at how much it has improved my breathing capacity. I use It about three times a day, morning and night and once in the middle of the day. It has helped me to use my emergency inhaler less often.

Really helps my COPD
I have COPD (according to doctors) and using this exerciser really helps. I can actually see the increase in volume while using it and it helps to clear my lungs of fluids I normally cough up all day.

MOST EFFECTIVE LUNG EXERCISER
This certainly improves my breathing! Although it is the most challenging exerciser I have, because it's easy to use I keep trying to reach and sustain my lung capacity as marked on the machine. It can be hard but it really works. I have to keep at it and not give up! Feels great to Win Over Myself! Using this, even just once or twice a week, makes a HUGE difference! I no longer need as much medication and am increasing my stamina for everyday activities. This is a great tool even for people who don't have lung issues as it strengthens and improves the quality of breathing, especially as there is more and more polluted air.

Exactly What Hospital Gave Me
Exactly what the hospital gave me after my operations. I'm trying to strengthen my lungs/diaphragm.The respiratory tech said everyone should use these to keep your lungs in good shape, helps to keep them cleaned out n MAYBE prevent pbeumonia from setting in. There is a chart to tell u your desirable lung capacity/strength on a normal person. Not as easy as u think!

Unit Is Totally Useless to Me
Device arrived and on time. It appears to be of good quality and I actually like it quite a lot, but the problem is it is totally useless to me. I'm a relatively healthy 55 year old male. The documentation which came with the device says normal lung functioning for someone my age and height is around 2650 - THE PROBLEM IS THIS DEVICE ONLY GOES TO 2500.Buy this device if you are elderly or have significantly compromised lung functioning but DON'T BUY IT if you think you will someday exceed what a typical 55 year old male can inhale. To help you decide, I've attached a photo of the documentation that came with my unit.

Too small
The max volume on this is way too small. Based on the chart for my gender, age and height, I am supposed to be beyond the max this unit can register. Trying to keep the ball in the proper zone gave me a tiny bit of a workout for a couple of days as I try to recover from a touch of pneumonia, but I had to order a larger one to be able to progress in inspired volume. It's also odd that I can get to a much higher inspired volume on this small one, but it's nearly impossible for me to get to the same volume on the larger unit. Maybe this was meant to be a pediatric unit, but it didn't say so in the description when I purchased it.

Not sure about this?
I thought this would help me develop increased breath capacity, but did not find it at all motivating since about half way up corresponded to the best rating on the label. Seemed to be labeled backward. But might help someone else somehow?
