I wanted an around the back style so I could wear a wide brimmed hat. There is another brand out there, but with a little bit different implementation. This style band plus the over the head straw works really well. The noise threshold/cut-off was no better, nor no worse than my cheaper unit. What was much better was the quality of the amplified sound. Very clear, has good directional awaremess--just great. The controls are nice and easy to find and manipulate. Yes they were much more, but the comfort and electonics coupled with the fact they are one of the only games in town for this style took some of the shock out of the cost. You get what you pay for. My only complaint is in battery replacemet. It is hard to explain what's involved but there is an instruction sheet specifically for battery replacement. You do it once, it makes sense and then you are prepared. Not intuitive. I am pleased. Working great still and comfortable with gel ear cups. Batteries last a long time. I wear them under a helmet, I had normal cut helmet first and they did well. Have recently switched to a high cut helmet and it does even better. Sound clarity is really good and shuts down instantly when shooting.
