I only had to screw in the legs and it was ready to use. A piece of material was supplied, which Velcroed to the underside of the stool, hiding the unfinished wood etc. This is a great idea - my only minor issue is that the material is black. Given that the upholstery and wooden finish are pale in colour, something matching might have looked more aesthetically pleasing.
