I did not see any other reviews noting this requirement and may explain why it is not working properly or stops working. If you are using this in a business environment with multiple users that do not follow instructions - do not buy this equipment. Having to use a carrier that your laminate pouches go into before inserting into machine is a quirky design. I am returning before someone in the office uses it and messes it up.
