I started changing lights, using the light keeper for help, and while I would geta few more to get lighted, even more were going out on me as I worked. The first picture is where I stopped working and gave up. I just considered throwing it out and starting over. I then learned there were different voltages to Christmas light bulbs and I didn't know what I was replacing mine with. Once I learned the voltage I needed, I popped over here and bought the box of 200 bulbs.The evening I got the bultbs, I tried doing the spot fix again still thinking only a few bulbs were out. Boy was I naive. After changing about 100 bulbs, I was ready to throw away the tree again or just string it with other strands of lights (it's a pre lit tree.) I went to bed once again defeated.The next day, I decided on a new strategy. I took the top third part of the tree off, sat on my couch, took off each light one by one, tested it using my light keeper and replaced the ones that were burnt out and keeping those that weren't. I finally got the top third of the Christmas tree to work, but I only had a dozen or lights left. Out of an abundance of caution, I ordered two boxes this time.I applied the same process on the bottom two thirds of my tree and now have a box and a half left. (Forgot the brand name). It's also a good purple, not pinkish. Which is difficult to find. They're nice & bright, & the bulbs fit the hubs easily. I've already been able to refurbish x3 strands and probably have enough bulbs left to fix even 1 more strand. :) ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars What you always wanted to know about xmas bulbs but were afraid to ask .. *by B***S on Reviewed in the United States on December 27, 2021* Xmas mini incandescent replacement bulbs can be a challenge to get right so they all have the same brightness. You need to know the bulb spec for voltage, current and wattage, which is not always clear or available. I ordered these for a pre-lit 200 bulb tree only knowing I needed a 2.5 volt bulb with a shunt so the whole string didn't quit if one bulb filament burned out. After replacing a burnt out bulb with one of these, it was very dim compared to the others. I was ready to send them back, but after doing research, found these facts about light strings:1. Christmas light strings with many bulbs are usually made of independent loops wired in parallel, so the bulb spec is really dependent on the loop, not the string. A 2.5 volt bulb is normally installed in a 50 bulb loop. Each bulb in the loop adds up to the maximum input voltage, in this case 2.5 times 50 = 125 volt, safe to run at a normal outlet 115-120 volts.2. The bulb current spec is the wattage divided by the voltage. So a 120 volt outlet with a 0.42 watt bulb will have a current of 0.42/120 = .168 amps. A .25 watt bulb will have a current of 0.25/120 = .100 amps. The difference is due to the lower wattage bulb filament having a higher resistance.My pre-lit tree has .25 watt bulbs (also known as energy saver), which only allow .100 amps of current flowing through the loop (the filament is smaller diameter and has higher resistance). The .42 watt bulb I bought and put in the loop was starved for current as it needs .168 amps of current for the same brightness as the .25 watt bulb, so it looks very dim.However, if you substitute all 50 bulbs in the loop with the higher current/wattage bulbs I bought, they have the same brightness as the lower current/wattage bulbs in the other loops. The parallel wiring lets each loop run independently at different currents with the same voltage, so equal brightness across the loops.Tips:The bulb socket at the start of a loop has 3 wires going into its base. Otherwise you can count 50 bulbs from the starting socket (only for 2.5 volt bulb strings).A toothpick works really well to separate/space the bulb power wires when refitting into original sockets.Order enough of the same spec bulbs to complete all the loops in the string, otherwise you have to remember which bulb types were installed in each loop.
