Stan the Man Reviews: Dried Blueberries

*by S***N on Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2017*

These things are like small raisins and they are very tasty. You get a lot of them too. I got them for my eyesight and plan to eat a small cupful every day. They are probably good for baking and you could rehydrate them by soaking them in water or possible the milk you plan to use in muffins.I give these five stars. I guess some purists might not want them to be slightly sweetened but they are not really all that sweet.THIS PRODUCT DOES NOT CONTAIN GMS'S BUT YOU MIGHT FIND THE FOLLOWING INTERESTING.Note on GMO's: The human race has been modigying organsims genetically for literally thousands of years but it was done by selective breeding of plants and animals. Corn, for instance, is totally a creation of man. It did not even exist before about 800 A.D. There is no such thing as a sheep in nature or, I believe, a goat. The ancestor of both these animals still exists in the middle east. All the grains you eat have been modified by human beings. Even the original wheats, Emmer and Einkorn, were probably selected by planting the better kernels for next years crop.Genetic modification is done by transferring genes that code for specific things. There are only four chemicals that make up ALL DNA so there is not really a gene for cows and people and hedgehogs, etc. If a gene codes for protein in a steak it does the same thing for a protein in "Golden Rice". If you put in the gene that codes for a deadly poison it would code for that poison. Is there a danger? Very slight and one would assume the products are tested. Poisons like those found in many plants, fungi, and animals did come about by the mutation of genes. All life, in fact, came about this way otherwise not even bacteria would be here at all.I would not be too leary of GMO's. My greater worry would be pesticides, hormones, and antibiotics. THIS PRODUCT DOES NOT CONTAIN GMOs.There is one more interesting fact when it comes to the things human beings consume as food. Nobody really knows if any food is truly safe if consumed over decades or a lifetime. Some, like parsnips, do seem to be carcinogenic. There were even questions about apple peel and lettuce in the past. Soy is NOT good for you since it mimics the female hormone. It is especially BAD for males. I stopped my daughter from giving soy milk to my grandson who is allergic to milk. The health food crowd will worry about GMO's and then drink concoctions like Almond milk and yogurts and products made up as health food with no idea what they are actually cramming down their throats. People take supplements that are actually out and out bad for you. The seeds of alfalfa are poisonous and the foliage of rhubarb so be careful about generalize ng. One part of a plant may be great and another part loaded with cyanide.Once again. I love these blueberries and plant to buy them in the future unless they jack the price through the roof. I am enjoying a small cupful now while typing this revies.

    Large, great tasting, versatile blueberries

*by J***B on Reviewed in the United States on February 29, 2016*

This is one of the best dried fruit products I've ever had. I see some reviewers have bought several boxes...this has been my first box so I will update if in the future I have a different experience.I like blueberries but have never seen them dried like this before. These are about the size of a large raisin, with a slightly higher moisture content so they are a little more moist. Unlike a box of raisins, I have yet seen a "bad" dried blueberry--there don't seem to be any tiny, crunchy or gross berries in this bag. To my taste, they are definitely sweet enough, as sweet as a raisin. I eat a lot of blueberries and blueberries themselves range from sweet to tart...it seems to me that these are made from blueberries that are large and sweet. Sometimes I can't eat regular blueberries without sugar and cream, but these have all been sweet enough to eat plain. My entire family likes them. I put about a 1/3 cup into my teenage son's lunch every few days and its a great way for him to get a serving of fruit. I also add them into hot cereals and eat them with cream and sugar. Because the serving size has a moderate amount of calories (1/3 cup, 150 calories) its a good way to give him a shot of healthy calories.I see that there is some added sucrose and sunflower oil--probably explains why my first reaction upon seeing how many calories were in a serving was a feeling of surprise--more calories than I expected.I'm reviewing just the product itself and not the purchasing process. I too wish these were sold outside the Pantry store; I'd send them as gifts to some of my family members.

Happy with my Traverse Bay Blueberries!

*by A***. on Reviewed in the United States on July 30, 2020*

Not as plump as the cherries, but blueberries are much smaller and less juicy once dried, but they will make an excellent addition to pancakes and cakes and what-have-you! Maybe a blueberry cocktail of some sort -- I will try that I'm sure! Not as tasty as the cherries for just munching but I still recommend them! Amazing amount of blueberries and so lovely to look at. The bag is quite large and I think I got about 12 cups of dried blueberries from it. Repackaged into smaller bags and sucked the air out, so I shouldn't have to worry about them going bad. Just purchased and the date on the box said best by August 2021, so that gives me at least a year to eat them. Shouldn't be a problem. In fact by taking the air out, they should last quite a bit longer. Happy with my purchase!
