It's a little longer than usual and I find that to be an added plus. Like the reflectiveness too. Purchased this and the matching harness which is wonderful - sturdy and yet soft on my 30lb. cattle dog. Just wish they offered collars too!!UPDATE: 2 1/2 years later and we still LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this leash and matching harness...so much so that we purchased another 2 leashes (one to keep in each car) and another harness to keep in her "travel" bag. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. There are two dogs in the neighborhood that ran at her when she was a puppy (didn't hurt her but she HATES them). Have been out walking her when the other dogs (they're together) have been out on their walks and my little 30 pounder has literally pulled me to the ground trying to get at them while I was holding the leash (GREAT LEASH that didn't break or leave my hand) several times. Then there are the occasions when I've seen them coming and had time to get hold of the grab handle and although I've then had a heck of a time holding on, the handle really gives me control and seems unfazed by the amount of straining and twisting and turning my dog does in an futile attempt to get free.
