Borosilicate glass/lab glass/erie blue-green glass, whatever you want to call it, doesn't expand as much as other types, so it's safer, especially for the uncareful who might take these cups from a hot oven to a slightly wet surface, such as a cool granite countertop--not a good idea, BTW, for any glass. These cups will probably be fine . . . butNew Pyrex and other non-borosilicate glass has a good chance of shattering if placed 'very hot' on a cool surface or in a freezing environment.I'm not condemning the other products, if you're not careless, you have a wider--and cheaper--selection of great cook wear.
