Don, himself, was an 18-year-old sailor.Don Rickles' humor isn't for everybody. It is often said that IF he doesn't insult you... he doesn't like you.His humor is wet yer pants FUNNY.I wanted to add a comment as an old sailor, myself. My wife asked me W=H=Y CPO Sharkey is wearingALL GOLD stripes and chevrons in the opening credits, and yet wore,all, R-E-D stripes and chevrons in the first f-e-w episodes:1.) Chief Robinson has less than 11 years, and wears red. With a clean record, HE goes "GOLD" at three service stripes, whichrepresent 12-years, total.2.) Chief Sharkey, also a Boatswainsmate (pronounced BO-s'n-mate), wears six four-year service stripes... which he, correctly,wears a-f-t-e-r episode #3.3.) The NUMBER recruits shown in the barracks are to save the producers MONEY. Priceless!I loved this show first run on TV as a kid, and find it even funnier now. However, in today's PC climate where everyone is offended by everything, Mr. Rickles' humor wouldn't be given the time of day, let alone would he be given his own TV show, movie spots, and guest-host status on Johnny Carson.And if you like Season 1, Season 2 was even funnier with the introduction of his raspy, intolerant, and very humorous new commanding officer.The visual quality is about that of a home-taped VHS, but it beats not having this at all. Thank goodness for this release of a true comedy classic from a golden age of insult comedy, doled out by the master.5 STARS ### ⭐⭐⭐ 3.0 out of 5 stars Okay, But Dated To The Era *by H***N on Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2019* First off, the quality of the video is, at best, VCR quality. The show is typical of the time in which it was produced. Typical one-liners and corny jokes. The black recruits all talk like they are from ‘the hood’ and have afros that would never fit under a sailors hat. The black chief always carries his around under his arm, because it would never fit on his head. That being said, as a former sailor who went to bootcamp in San Diego RTC and was a Navy Chief, it is fun to see outside scenes that appear to be from the actual training center, including the USS Recruit! The barracks is fairly true to the real thing and much of what happens in the show, happens in the Navy. It doesn’t have the heart of a series like Goner Pyle, USMC or even Hogan’s Heroes. It’s like watching any number of 1970’s sitcoms, only at the San Diego Recruit Training Center.
