Stinks like vomit and turpentine! This terrible smell is a sign that the shea butter is rancid, and should not be used. Good quality, unrefined shea butter should have an earthy scent, along with smokiness which is due to the extraction process. It should NOT have a disgusting petrol/turpentine/vomit stink. This arrived in a big tub so I scooped some out using a clean spatula and placed it in a smaller container for ease of use. The horrible smell became apparent and out of concern I did some research and found this batch was rancid. I bought this to treat my eczema and dry skin in general as I wanted a natural product that would be easy to apply and stay solid at room temperature. I usually use coconut oil for all-round moisturisation but during hotter weather it's not so convenient as it doesn't remain solid. In the past I've bought lotions and creams containing (refined) shea butter so I decided to take a chance and try the most natural version of it, pure and unrefined shea butter. This was my first purchase from this brand but due to this singular bad experience I won't purchase from this company again and have now requested a refund.
