Classic neo-noir
This is billed as a psychological thriller. It is a neo-noir psychological crime drama, and a very good one at that. I have been watching quite a lot of what is called "neo-noir films lately, and I often compare classic noir with the new noir. What I like aboutthe classic noirs is, what they don't say, and what is implied. These days, film makershave more choice of what can be said, and sometimes they get over dramatic withlanguage and action, so they can be overly simple, for a simple audience. That is notthe case here.Gone Girl, is a story of our times in the age of multi-media, and the court of public opinion. This movie had a budget of 67 million dollars, and you can see where the money was spent. It was spent of the script and writing. This is a a writers film, written by Gillian Flynn, from herbook of the same name. The plot builds up and surprises at each turn, and I have to say themusic score is great. They could have went for a orchestrally score with lots of strings to heightenthe tension, but no they didn't, they went with an electronic music soundtrack. At a very importantplot point, the music kicks in with a out of time beat to the the scene. It sounds jarring and out ofplace, but as the scene moves, it all makes sense. The music score reminded me of Hitchcock'sThe Birds, as in you don't even notice it, and I have to say this is the kind of movie Alfred Hitchcockwould make today. This is a classic movie that will only get better with age, and, if you want to learn about GOOD writingwatch this film, as it is a master class in screenwriting

A must watch! One of finchers best!
What a film,David Finchers gone girl is a very clever film, I will keep this spoiler free but it's typical Fincher with a great twist and it haves a lasting impression on you way after the credits role! Finchers previous work like fight club and Seven are of equal quality in my opinion! However, I have to commend the writer of the book, gone girl, Flynn! I read her book after I saw the film and I found it equally as good as the film, it really was well written! She also wrote the screen play for the film and you can clearly see her vision transfered into the movie.A must see for fans of films like fight club or anyone who likes a clever film with a killer twist! Both Pike and Affleck give fantastic performances as Nick and Amy!The DVD, I watched this movie and i enjoyed it so much I decsided to buy it on DVD, I'm an avid DVD collector and Own around 650 titles! I had to own this movie! The DVD is really nicely produced. It's slimline (however newer editions are normal sized) and it's very clean and simplistic, the pictures are of nice quality and is held in a paper sleeve and the 'book' style DVD holder has some really nice images! The only small problem I have with the DVD is the lack of extras, all there is a directors commentary but I would of liked a few more features. However, not badley enough to knock off a star! All in all, top class movie with a really nice DVD!Thanks for reading my review!

Engrossing but some flaws
Engrossing couple of hours, if not altogether satisfying. The build up is tense and carries a good level of intrigue; however, the ending is weak. It seems that (as with many directors overstretching themselves), a considerable effort goes into creating suspense and raising interesting questions about how the plot will develop, but then ultimately, the conclusion is unsatisfactory as it fails to convincingly explain the motivation for the events seen. The decisions made in the story don't seem consistent with the mindsets of the main characters (as set-up over the 2 hours). Changes in mind on critical decisions are not explained well, so it leaves a sense that the director couldn't really bring all the elements of the story together towards the end without asking the audience to accept some inconsistencies with how the leads were motivated, reasoned and behaved at the end. Otherwise, good watching, and a few twists.SPOILERS1. Why did the wife kill her rich ex, when she could have waited for things to calm down then do it - and probably get away with his money. Why then also return to the husband and try to live out a lie?2. Why didn't the FBI investigate the killing more rather than accepting the wife's story?3. Why didn't anyone question the ex earlier and establish his alibi (before he was contacted by the wife - after all, the husband managed to do it)?4. Why didn't the husband and his sister get rid of the stash in the wood shed when they new the wife had set them up?5. Why was the husband behaving so suspiciously when he genuinely thought that his wife had been killed/kidnapped?6. What about the diary and the claims that the husband was "plotting to kill her?" Why did she seek to buy a gun?"7. And most of all, why would the husband stay with someone he was going to divorce even before he knew she tried to frame him for her murder and she killed someone in cold blood? Why did he go along with it all - just didn't seem credible at the end!

I often get rather disappointed when books are made into films but that was ...
I read this book on holiday after seeing that this was going to be made in a movie and managed to read the book in under a week. I got home and watched the movie and was just as impressed as when I read the book. It is such a thrilling story with so many twists and turns. I often get rather disappointed when books are made into films but that was definitely not the case with Gone Girl. Also, the addition of Ben Afflecks gorgeous face made this film EVEN BETTER!I was having a girls night in recently and asked if anyone had seen this film and could not believe that not one of them had seen it! I haaad to buy it so they could all watch it. After the film we all sat and discussed it and everyone was so in shock with the whole plot. They had been gasping and "Oh my god"ing the whole way through they film which is exactly what I had been like also.I would recommend this book and film to everyone! Although some if it can be quite sexual, gory and rather twisted, it is an unforgettable story and everyone needs to see it!
