I see lots of posts where they crap out after a month or after a year. Im curious about longevity?** A: I have about 10 uninterruptible power supply units. Most of them use 2 batteries (but a couple only have 1 battery). I have used this brand -- and some other brands -- I do not recall having any that quit after only a year or two. I put labels on the batteries with the "in service" date ... and most last 4 or 5 years. A couple (I forget the brand) lasted over 6 years. The honest truth is that I haven't paid a lot of attention to the brand. These sealed lead acid batteries tend to be made with similar technology (Absorbed Glass Mat) and I have not discerned any particular qualitative differences between brands, so long as the basic specifications match. I purchase the lower priced models of the required power specification, when I need replacements. That said... it is always possible that a defective battery might be received that may seem to work OK, but then fails prematurely. I suppose this could happen to any brand ... and you can be sure that someone who bought a battery that failed 'early' would be most likely to post a negative review. (It is also possible for a defective battery to fail very quickly, within weeks or days -- I would hope the vendor would offer a replacement or at least a deep discount should that occur -- but I have never encountered a defective battery in any of the UPS units I currently have online. So, all I can say is that I have not had any particular difficulty with this particular brand (or for that matter any other brand) of sealed lead acid batteries. Note: if these are used in some other type of service, you may have a different experience. Use in "uninterruptible power supply" does not cause a deep draw down as would use as a starter battery in gasoline powered device. I have no experience with one of these batteries in that sort fo service. **Q: If i’m connecting this battery to a device using alligator clips, which style is preferred, the f1 or f2? thank you.** A: The model number PS-1270F2 -- ends in "F2" which is the clip size required by this battery. Technically these are not "alligator clips" (those are often used in temporary connections with spring-loaded "jaws" that resemble an alligator's mouth). The battery is designed for "Faston Tab" connectors that is a flat blade type terminal. These come in two sizes, F1=Faston Tab #187 (.187 in. wide), or F2=Faston Tab #250 (.250 in. wide). There are adaptors available to allow one type of connector to gas the other size terminal, however it is recommended that batteries be purchased to match the tab size required for your application. (Using an adaptor simply adds more metal surfaces that are potentially subject to corrosion and possible electrical interruptions.) **Q: Is there a version with more amp hours that lasts longer? Using in my alarm box...** A: If the connrcters are compatible and you have the room in the box, you can go as big as the space you have. **Q: What is the shelf life?** A: A sealed lead-acid battery (such as this) can have a very lengthy shelf life. The ideal storage temperature is 50 degrees F/10C (or less, but above freezing). The battery should be fully charged when placed on the shelf -- and (IMPORTANT) it should be recharged regularly, at least every 6 to 9 months. (Such batteries discharge about 3% of their capacity each month.) IF properly cared for, a "stored" battery might last as long as 10 years, but in practice, outside of ideal conditions, it could be much less and that depends on what parameters have not been met. Note that complete discharge of the battery (failure to recharge every 6-9 months) may render the battery unable to hold a charge after 18 months to 2 years.
