Place the stethoscope’s head on the artery slightly under the bottom of the cuff and listen for the pulse. Step 3 Pump air into the cuff up to about 200mmHG or 30mmHG above your normal systolic number, then release the valve and listen for the pulse. Without Stethoscope Wrap the cuff snugly around the arm without over-tightening. Place your fingertips on the artery on the wrist slightly above the inside thumb to find a pulse. Pump air into the cuff until you can no longer feel the pulse. Slowly release the valve and feel for the first pulse on the artery.
