It was probably one of the first books we read as a class in junior school when I would have been about 8 years old. It stuck with me long enough for me to want to find a copy and read it as an adult, and I wasn't disappointed. David is a wonderful character. He escapes from the concentration camp as a 12 year old, and embarks on a journey on foot to Denmark, travelling through Greece, Italy, Switzerland and Germany on his way.
