You should not only hear it but be able to feel it. I have used these for years but have found that they are now very poorly made and often faulty. I even had one explode in the pipe which means that you have just added to your plumbing problems. **Q: Will this work on a toilet?** A: No, I think it only works for a 3 inch pipe that is not a toilet.
