You'll get a different reading depending on where/how you stand on it. I can get the most consistent reading by standing on my toes in the middle of the base. If I stand normally, it reads a few pounds lighter. If you have big feet, I would imagine you're not getting an accurate reading at all.

Excellent value, easy to adjust and view. And of course no batteries to replace or electronics to fail. The platform is a bit small, have to be mindful to stand squarely - I am size 9 1/2, if you have larger feet, you may want to opt for a larger device. Works fine for me.
