I would say it is more of a storage chest that identifies as a cooler. First time I used it was on a fishing trip in the gulf, left at 6 am with a cooler full of ice, by 7 am (an hour later) I had a cooler with 1/4 ice and 3/4 water. By 8 am I had a cooler full of water. Just three hours in high 70 degree weather and this cooler worked as good as a styrofoam cooler bought at a gas station.
