It is honestly the best freeze-dried meal I have ever had, and it tastes much better than what I usually expect from backpacking or camping food. One caution is that the instructions understate the water and soak time and can leave the meat and mushrooms a little crunchy. I find a full 400ml of boiling water and a 20 minute hydration time with a second round of stirring/mixing half way through gives good results. Given that it's better in quality (and in quantity) than the fast food I might easily buy on the way to the trailhead, I'd say these are even pretty decent value as pre-packaged backpacking meals go.

This Peak Refuel Beef Stroganoff has fantastic flavor and texture. It is honestly the best freeze-dried meal I have ever had, and it tastes much better than what I usually expect from backpacking or camping food. The texture is really good after rehydrating, and the flavor is rich and satisfying. It would be great for backpacking because it is lightweight and easy to prepare, but I could also see it being useful for camping trips or emergency food storage. Overall, I’m very impressed with the quality. If you want a freeze-dried meal that actually tastes good and feels like a real meal, this is an excellent choice.
