While they are not cast iron I'm sure the rack will hold much more without any problem just so long as your screws are anchored securely in the wall or ceiling. Mine hangs from the ceiling and I screwed the eye bolts into ceiling joists. I really wanted a shelf for hanging pots and pans that had the flexibility of mounting from above of below. This one gives you three options. It is a very sturdy metal shelf. Nice thick metal, that is well made for half the cost of all of the other shelves I found. I mounted the shelf using two different supports. I attached the chains to the ceiling (but at an angle so the shelf would lean against the wall) and the wall mounted supports that go underneith. The wall mounted supports didn't line up with my wall studs, and I didn't feel like using a wall anchor would be enough support. I attached the ceiling chains to studs as well. This pot rack gives me a great place to put my stainless steel pots and pans and looks great. I decided to just put stainless steel kitchenware on the rack, and I really like how it looks. The top is a great for storing the lids. I decided to hang the rack from the ceiling and thought it would be more stable to hang it from studs. So, the ceiling hooks are screwed into studs. It seems very sturdy. At the time when the picture was taken, I was deciding how high I wanted it and hadn't taken off extra links on the chain.
