Sure it works with 2 cell?** A: It should work, since it requires 5 watts of power. Will it be as bright as a 6 cell probably not as there is no visible circuit to control power in. Mine is in a 3 cell battery and I am happy with the output. It isn't as bright as my lithium celled flashlights but it gave new life to an old D cell light. **Q: I have a 3 D old mag light, probably 20 years old will this work** A: I think it will. I used it with a 20 +/- year old 4 D-Cell Maglite. A very big improvement. New life for an old, but classic high quality flashlight. Not as bright as the latest Maglite models But again a very big upgrade.
