Fukuyama erklärt die Welt in einer klaren Sprache, behandelt das Thema umfassend, systematisch, leicht verständlich und einprägsam. Er lichtet den Nebel, der im politisch-medialen Diskurs nicht erst seit gestern wabert und zu einer systematischen (absichtlichen?) Verwechslung und Vermengung von Begriffen führt und damit eine kognitive Verunsicherung zeitigt, selbst dann, wenn es beispielsweise um banale Begriffe wie Menschenrechte (Universalismus) geht oder den praktischen (und offensichtlichen) Unterschied zwischen internationalem und nationalem Recht. Die Originalfassung ist leicht verständlich - bis auf ein paar Wörter, die man im Internet findet, aber nicht unbedingt in einem klassischen Wörterbuch. Nur einen Satz habe ich nicht verstanden: "Liberal universalism at one level flies in the face of the nature of human sociability." Vielleicht handelt es sich um einen Druckfehler: lies statt flies? (S. 132) Fukuyamas Botschaft: "If liberalism is to be preserved as a form of government, we need to understand the sources of these discontents." Dazu gehören auch Themen wie "Nationalstaat", in linkselitären Kreisen ein Tabuthema, mitunter eine Fiktion. Denn: [The] "tendency [of the liberals] to downplay national identity has allowed the extreme right to claim this ground." Fukuyamas Buch ist sehr kompakt, 150 Seiten, geht nicht in die Tiefe und bedient nicht jene Leser, die Ausführlicheres erfahren möchten. Auch die kurzen Erwähnungen verschiedener Denker und ihrer Hauptthesen dürfte etwas vereinfacht daherkommen. Als erster Eindruck über den Liberalismus ein ideales Buch. Für Anspruchsvollere eher nicht. Wenn hier etwas doch etwas zu kurz kommt, dann der Wokismus (ist nicht unbedingt das Thema des Buches, diesen Aspekt erörtert der Autor unter Identity Politics).
