Well ... at some angles this appears 3-D. However, it is a flat piece of plastic that inserts in the black stand as shown. The colors do change -- the remote works sort of but print for directions literally need a magnifying glass to read. While the lamp is colorful (again, blue not as vibrant as shown; green and red ok), it's definitely not as the ad looks. ALSO, this comes with a usb cord ONLY, so if you want to use it other than where your computer is or have other usb adapters already plugged in , you'll need a USB electric adapter to plug it into household current. I DO like the product and have it as a backlight on a book case shelf, but it's just not what I thought I was getting.
