There are a lot of things that work really well in the novel. We slowly discover what his life is like and what his life used to be, reading about him and then perusing his madness journal. I think the strongest point in the novel is the wealth of details and accurate descriptions which enable you to really come close to all the characters in the story and feel a lot for them. You can't feel indifferent to the anguish Jerry is going through and you shiver at the ordeals both him and his wife have to deal with. There's great poignancy mingled with a good dose of humour as well. Even the more minor characters like the staff at the nursing home or the annoying neighbour Mrs Smith are well-rounded protagonists and the author has taken great care to make them live on the page. For me the only fault lies in the length of the novel. I did find that it was too slow at times and I believe that a slightly tighter plot would have rendered the story even more enjoyable. This being said I found this book a very accomplished tale whose solution is in the title provided you really don't trust anyone. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very enjoyable. *by B***Y on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 December 2017* I really enjoyed this book - I love a twist and this one kept you going.
