Yes, there is a slight chemical smell, but this is always the case with any new memory foam mattress - if the mattress left to inflate in a ventilated room, the smell disappears quickly without issue. This mattress is so firm and comfortable, offering a lot of support in all the places that support is needed, ensuring a fantastic night's sleep. The mattress is also noticeably much deeper that lesser counterparts, and the extra support from those extra inches of foam is certainly worth paying a little more for in my opinion - you can feel the difference, and it is surprising just how much the mattress actually inflates.
