I would call this a "switcher" rather than a "splitter", but whatever you call it, it performs the job of selecting which of the two connected serial devices is bridged to the output socket. This is a sturdy, solid, mechanical switch that does one thing well. I employed this switch in my home theater rack, allowing me to select between a video and an audio switcher for connecting via USB-serial adapter, and then transmitting switching commands from a script. It worked flawlessly and exactly as expected.
