Where it attaches to the top it adjusts. Our use the top holes because I have a 5 inch topper on my bed. It can go about 6 inches shorter.The holes on my ancient bedframe did not match up But that’s just because it’s ancient. All I did was push it up against the wall with my bed. The instructions were a little unclear but the pictures helped a lot. I did have someone helping me assemble and attach to my bedframe, and I would suggest the same for anyone else. My only concern is how much flexing happens on the two support beams that attach the headboard to the frame. Even just leaning against it while sitting up in bed, it definitely bends a lot more than I expected... I ended up putting some black felt on the parts that tended to hit the wall first to prevent nicks in the wall. Would recommend for people on a budget or just anyone who doesn’t want to spend a ton on a headboard.
