This is the well known sweet tasting nut, often sold roasted on the street in Winter, especially around Christmas. This is a large tree and requires space; a fast growing species. Its dark green foliage is quite decorative on its own, including the yellow, hanging male flowers in Spring. It prefers slightly acidic and a good fertile soil, it tolerates well Summer heat though, it is easy to grow. Deciduous. We have young, but strong seedlings on offer. Review: Lovely strong plant - Sweet chestnut plant was packed with great care and arrived in. Perfect condition . It is growing well and when it grows a little bit taller I'll plant it out. I have planted it in a larger pot for now. I was so pleased with the first plant I actually bought a second. It has been a great number of years since sweet chestnuts have been available to buy in shops near me so I thought I'd might as well grow my own and share some with my brother who loves them. This little plant is well worth the money.

**Q: Could you tell me the height ( and likely diameter of the trunk) in 20 years and at maturity?**
A: Hello,

it much depends on growing conditions, and the genetic makeup of the seed but in ideal conditions, it should be like 30-40ft tall and 20-25ft wide with 3/4ft thick trunk. We have vigorously growing ones and almost dwarf ones from seed. I hope this helps. Best regards, Madeleine

**Q: Info on web suggests 25 years to fruit, needs another tree nearby and unlikely to fruit from seed. Why is this not true of this product?**
A: Hi, although the listing does not state when it will fruit first, I can assure you that the information you refer to is not accurate.  It does not need 20 years to fruit but less than half (the seeds of these are the seeds of a tree which were sown 10 years ago in Central Europe), it will fruit on its own (male and female flowers are separate but all on the same plant) and it is likely to fruit from seed - (how otherwise it would self-propagate in nature ?) (the opposite would contradict the first bit too). :) All seedlings are different, therefore we can not guarantee exact fruiting age but it is extremely unlikely, that it will be anything more than 8-10 years. A: Self fertile if you mean self pollinating the answer is yes. I can add that they take Three years to produce fruit(Nuts)
