They were packaged well with cardboard and styrofoam so that the chairs did not rub together during shipping. I was so tickled with the chairs that I ordered the other 6 that I needed for my dining table. They came earlier than expected, packaged extremely well for damage free shipping, and are really high quality. All the joints are welded not screwed together, except those that attach the wood seat to the frame. No assembly required. Most of this style of chair at this price range are screwed together, not welded. The color is great, though more of an aged copper than a grey color. The seat may take some getting used to. The wood seat is flat, not contoured. The wood chairs we had before were contoured and a little more comfortable, but these are so pretty I will have to give them the benefit of the doubt. These chairs look great with our 5 foot x 3 foot breakfast table. I put them in the dining room with our much larger table just to see what they look like.
