## Customer Reviews

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Lacks smart features but overall cleans VERY well
*by on Reviewed in the United States February 3, 2025*

My girlfriend and I purchased this roomba about a month ago for our new apartment that has only hard floors. Disclaimer is we have never used this on carpet. We have a cat and we were tired of manually vacuuming up tons of cat hair each week.SETUP:Setup was pretty easy. I just had to put a few parts together, download the app, and connect the robot to the Wifi. I did have some issues where it said the Wifi password was incorrect even though it wasn't, but after some research I found out that it was because I had special characters in my Wifi password. Why is this a limitation? No idea, kind of ridiculous but changing my Wifi password fixed this problem, and I haven't had any issues since.USE:Using this vacuum is super easy, you just click the start button on the vacuum or in the app. I also linked it together with HomeBridge so I'm able to ask Siri to start to vacuum as well. You can set up a run schedule in the app, but I set it up (again, through HomeBridge), so that it runs when neither of us are home. People say that it's loud when it's running, I think this is definitely overstated. It's nowhere near as loud as a normal vacuum. You can still have a conversation while it's running, but it can be annoying at times.RESULTS:After about a month of running the roomba every day, we finally decided to sweep the floors and picked up pretty much nothing. It has done a fantastic job of keeping our floors clean of dust, cat litter, cat hair, crumbs, and literally anything else. We find that we have to dump the bin about once a week, which is perfectly okay with us because it takes two seconds to do. When we make a small mess, like dropping something in the kitchen, the spot clean function works pretty well. But considering that you have to go pick up the roomba, set it in the right spot, click "spot clean", leave the area for a bit, and then manually move it back to the home, it just becomes more effort than its worth. At that point, grab a broom.DOWNSIDES:There are a few downsides to the roomba. The first of which is that it doesn't clean for the first few feet near its home. After about a month, you could tell a difference between the area immediately around the home and everywhere else in the apartment. This is some kind of software limitation that I don't fully understand, but just be aware of this. The second downside is that this roomba has zero idea where it's going, it just bumps into things to map out your home. Over time, it seems to learn a bit more about the space and does a better job at navigating, but this is just a sacrifice you have to make at this price point. Similarly, this roomba will run over anything. Socks, cords, cat toys, it has no idea about its surroundings so sometimes it gets stuck. We just have to check that we didn't leave anything on the floor before we leave the house, because if we did we probably will have to rescue the roomba when we get home. The software does a good job of alerting you when the robot is stuck, but it's still annoying. More expensive models use a camera to avoid obstacles, preventing these issues. And thirdly, this roomba has no support for vacuuming certain rooms or only certain areas. It has to vacuum your entire home in one go or nothing. Sometimes I wish I could tell it to vacuum the kitchen after I cook dinner, for example. But again, this is just a sacrifice you make at this pricepoint, and iRobot's more expensive models have this feature.OVERALL:For $250 this roomba is totally worth it, but if you can get it on sale like we did (~$150), this roomba is an absolute no-brainer. The lack of obstacle avoidance or ability to specify different rooms or areas to clean is annoying. But that can all be blamed on the fact that we bought the cheapest model that iRobot sells, because their more expensive models DO have these features. At the end of the day, our apartment is extremely clean without us lifting a finger, and that's what counts. 5 stars for the time and effort this roomba has saved us, even if we have to rescue it every few weeks.

### ⭐ DON'T BUY THIS UNLESS YOU LIVE IN A SINGLE ROOM CARPETED APARTMENT
*by on Reviewed in the United States October 1, 2024*

Third and final review (7/1/25): I'm out. I'm selling this thing and buying a non-Roomba product. I live in a 4-level split (yeah I know another bad idea too - but that's a whole different subject) so each level is apartment-sized and therefore should not, in theory, not be an issue for this model. It is an issue. Carpeted bedrooms in 1970's era houses (hint - super small) it can handle. Anything bigger and without carpet is a no-go. The kitchen and living room are hardwood floors with a partial divider. When I release it in the kitchen it either finds a corner and keeps spinning for 45 minutes or immediately follows the divider-wall into the living room and proceeds directly to the stairwell where it gets hung about 75% of the time. IF it had a virtual wall it might work ok...maybe. But it doesn't have that capability and shame on me for not doing due diligence in doing more research and finding out it doesn't work with virtual walls. I'm certain more expensive Roomba products actually work. But it would have been great if Roomba skipped the cheap crap model completely. Money was not an issue when I purchased this - due to past experience I assumed the base model was all I needed for this house because no robot vacuum that I know of can climb stairs. But I assumed wrong - I would have happily paid more had I known this was perfect for carpeted bedrooms only and I needed to upgrade. But at this point I'm out $184 minus whatever some sucker will pay me for it on FB Marketplace and therefore have no intention of giving Roomba another cent. Thanks for reading my rant.Updated/Edit 10/29/24: I will not buy another one of these models and when I finally get frustrated enough or this one craps out I will definitely try Shark instead of iRobot.Issues:1) While it is engineered better than previous low-end models, it misses a lot more dirt than they did which shouldn't be the case because it is built better then they were. I had tracked in leaves and Soft Maple helicopters. It wouldn't pick up the "helicopter" seed after running over it multiple times. I replaced the filter with a new one and purposefully placed it directly in front of this Roomba and it never would pick it up. This was on carpet but I also find obvious dirt/leaf particles on the areas of the house with hardwood floors. I don't know if it's running over it and not picking it up or totally missing that part of the floor.2) I mentioned in my original review I thought it might be dumber. It is absolutely dumber. It gets stuck in places the old one never did. I receive multiple "needs assistance" messages every time I use it. It's approaching the point where I would save time by just manually vacuuming the room. And that sort of defeats the purpose.-As of now you won't convince me it wasn't dumbed down on purpose so the consumer will end up dropping more money for a higher-end model. I won't. I don't need the extras and was satisfied by the Roomba low end models in the past.Original review:This is the third low-end Roomba I've purchased over the last several years. I don't need all the extras, I've been very happy with the basic features offered by cheap models. I had to order a new one due to the consistent Error 14 that finally stopped my old one from working no matter how much I cleaned connections. That error is caused by the poor connection between the battery and the vacuum motor which was part of the dirt bin (separate from the main robot) and had to be totally removed to empty. Placing the motor on the removable dirt bin was not the best engineering. The great news is my new Q0120 vacuum motor is part of the main Roomba and not the dirt bin so that issue is completely solved. Additional positives include the dirt bin having much more capacity and there is only one roller to replace and not two. The WiFi iPhone interface is pretty cool - I always hated looking for my Roomba when it completed the job and now I can ask it to make a noise to locate it. I can also remotely start and stop it using the interface (iRobot app on iPhone). And if it stops or needs help it sends my phone a message. Overall I really like this model and mechanically it is a great improvement over the past two I've had. I do have one subjective concern: it's seems like it's a little dumber than the past two. In addition to getting hung up in the same places they did, it seems more confused by corners and walls with tables and multiple obstructions. In the past, it would take about 40-50 minutes to complete our kitchen/livingroom level of the house. Now I find it continuously hung up around certain small areas that contain furniture, walls and corners - it will spend 10 minutes going over the same spot until I get annoyed and move it. It took it two hours to complete the kitchen/livingroom and it still missed some spots. I'm hoping this may improve - maybe it has learning algorithms? Also it must have a slightly higher profile than older models as it is getting hard-stuck under furniture edges that the old ones could clear. I was also disappointed to find the old Virtual Wall doesn't work with new models and I will have to purchase a new one if I want to keep using that feature, but I get the need to update it and the related features. Overall I am quite happy with this new Roomba. Not having to clean power connections every use is HUGE. I would recommend it at this point. I'm giving it a 4-star for now due to it not being as smart as what I'm used to.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ It works well, not very intelligent.

I run this in our den where the dog kennels are. While it is as dumb as a brick, it does do a good job, it often gets stuck. It does have some neat features though, if places in the middle of the room then started, it will spiral outward, vacuuming along like a lil dumb, unaware robot. Alexa enabled.
