It is designed to put inward pressure on your upper teeth and leverage that pressure to push your lower teeth (and jaw) outwards. That is how it's supposed to work. It makes my bite feel a little weird when I take the guard out in the morning, but it fixes itself in a few minutes. If this is concerning to you, then this type of device is not for you.
