I never had any problem with either of them. I think it would depend on where you bought them from , like Amazon - has a wonderful return policy and warranties. I might have bought a used one from ebay, and that would only have a 30 day warranty or whatever the seller promised. Good Drug Stores used to sell them , too...for about $20.00--$30.00 and I didn't worry about a warranty, just new, good brand and the wonderful use you will get out of it when you need to record simple voice in the car, in the house. I write and get inspired at the worst times to write words on paper, so a voice-activated recorder. Buy lots of Micro-sized cassettes, or reuse them over and over. It will not record at a long distance, I don't think. Direct voice is perfect.
