## Description

MyDigitalSSD is proud to introduce the first device that finally lives up to the USB3.0 SSD hype, the OTG USB 3.0 Mini Solid State Drive (mSSD). The OTG mSSD is an ultra portable plug and play drive that offers total USB 3.0 5Gbps performance with any USB Attached SCSI Protocol (UASP) compliant system resulting in real SSD speeds up to 460MB/s. This pocket-sized wonder reduces wait times and maximizes bandwidth utilization, enabling faster and more efficient transfers while helping lower CPU utilization for extended battery life for on-the-go users. With 4 times the speed of a traditional hard drive, users can run operating systems, play games, stream media, and utilize programs directly from your OTG mSSD! Comparatively, with this power, the OTG would be rated 3000x if it were a flash drive. USB 3.0 users will see blazing speeds up to 210MB/s and USB2.0 users up to 38MB/s. Detachable Type B USB 3.0 cable keeps this 1 ounce device smaller than a business card for maximum mobility, roughly 1/4th the size of most external 2.5" hard drives or SSDs that weigh 8 ounces or more. UASP Compliant for maximum SSD and USB 3.0 Speeds - up to 50 times faster than an HDD (random 4K). Run operating systems, games, media, programs, and more directly from your OTG mSSD. Eliminate worry about the safety of your files with thanks to SSD technology combined with a tough outer case designed to withstand the day-to-day bumps, shakes, and drops that come with on-the-go computing without data loss.* Silently Save Energy With no moving parts, the OTG mSSD uses a fraction of the power than that of a spinning hard drive, extending the battery life of mobile devices like today's popular notebooks and tablets.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does it support trim?**
A: No. TRIM is not possible over USB, even with UASP. You need at least an eSATA or Thunderbolt interface on the device (and I haven't tried yet to get TRIM to work with those, either). There's lots of stuff on this out there. Search for "trim on usb", for example. However (and this is important), makers of SSD storage intended for use as USB-connected external storage have been using very good garbage collection (GC) in the storage controller (and extra user-inaccessible storage on the device). While there's debate as to whether GC is as good as TRIM, these devices do a very nice job of keeping write performance at high levels as the drive fills up. I have a 256GB USB 3.0 SSD from Freecom that's so fast I still haven't figured out how they do it. But get your Amex card out for that one: $300 and up when you can find it.

**Q: Maybe I missed it, but what are the dimensions? & weight (non-shipping)?**
A: It's small. Not sure exactly, but approx. 3 1/2 long , 2 wide and 1/2 " deep. I'm not good at estimating, weight but it's only 1 or 2 oz.

**Q: Is it usable like a flash drive? Will be transporting music back and forth between computers.**
A: Better than an ordinary USB flash drive. I use mine to image computers and it's very fast. Best portable drive I have owned. If you use multiple operating systems Mac, Windows, etc you can partition the disk into separate volumes/drives. Great device!

**Q: Anyone else getting only 223GB after formating the 256?**
A: As most of us who've been around a while know, computers count differently, with "1K" actually being 1,024 bytes, 1 MB actually being 1,048,576 bytes, and 1GB actually being 1,073,741,824 bytes. I THOUGHT that would explain the difference, and was about to make a long post explaining binary mathematics UNTIL I got to the end and divided 1073741824 into 256,000,000,000 and discovered that it came to 238.4185791015625. Well, THAT'S certainly NOT what Spinnukur OR Alandelon is getting! Sooo, I multiplied 1,073,741,824 by 223 and here's what I came up with... 239,444,426,752. That is SOOOOO close to 240 "GB" the difference isn't worth mentioning. In fact, I'd venture to say that if you did a Windows "Properties" on the disk (or whatever the equivalent is these days on the Mac), you'd see that the 223 is actually 223.SOMETHING and that the actual BYTES on the disk is somewhere JUST OVER 240,000,000,000.IF SO that is QUITE disconcerting, since in addition to SSDs made in binary multiples of 32, 64, 128, 256, 512 and 1,024GB, there have ALSO been some manufactured on a DIFFERENT size platform (including some of the BEST early drives from Intel, like the M25 80 GB drive I put as the boot drive in the system I built in 2009 -- cost more than a good 512 drive does today -- WELL more). Many of THOSE drives have been built at 40 GB, 80 GB, 120 GB, 240 GB, 480 GB and 960 GB. If you do a bit of shopping around here on Amazon or other places online, you'll see a great many drives vary from either the BINARY standard or THIS standard. IF a drive that was developed under THIS standard and was made at 240 GB IS being sold as a 256 GB drive, I don't care HOW computers count bytes, it's FRAUD and buyers are being cheated out of 16 GIGABYTES OF SPACE!!! If it was a smaller discrepancy of just a few hundred MB, I'd say maybe it was "system resources" used by the drive and allocated for the FAT and other purposes during formatting. But 16 GB out of 256?!?!? No way in HELL!!! And the fact that at least TWO members have reported this??? This needs to be explained, and people need to be compensated in some manner if I'm correct.IF this IS fraud, this could bring down this company and even put people IN JAIL (I don't mean Amazon; I mean the company that's selling the drive through Amazon, as there's NO WAY they could NOT know this).Caveat Emptor, let the buyer beware. I was actually reading all the questions to see if MINE had been posted. It had not. Mine was about MAJOR discrepancies in drive speed between the 256 GB version and all the others. The 256 GB version shows MUCH faster speeds on than even the 512 GB version. That's unusual, and I was wondering about that. NOW I'm wondering about MUCH MORE. AND THIS is why I often do MUCH research before I buy anything new with which I'm unfamiliar -- even from my most-trusted Amazon.com!Jeff
