I can see that number on the tool in the picture but is that what you get?** A: Dean,I can't say for sure if it is a 31941 because the number was not stamped on the gauge. The gauge was blank except for .025 stamped on it. I had the same problem when ordering because this item was so cheap. So I also ordered the 40466 which is supposed to be the same, but it's about 8.00 more. The 40466 has a gauge stamped "Oregon Gauge 31941" and a high quality file. I suspect the 27742 is an import, but I'm not saying it does not work. To be sure I would suggest the 40466 because it's OEM Oregon even down to the colors on the package. Dave **Q: . . . and the depth is?** A: The word ....depth..... should almost be changed to ...height... The gauge checks the height of the rakers or depth gauges and shows you how much to file or grind Down...it is a must have if you want the chain to really cut well after sharpening it a few times....it sets the thickness of the wood shaveing the chain takes off the log **Q: What size handle is compatible with the file?** A: The flat file can be used with or without a handle. The tang (pointed tip) adds 1.5 in., so the total length of the tool is 7.5 in. Width is about 9/16 in.
