I just opened them and they are moist and more seeds inside then my brand name green mountain beans. However there is a strange chemical odor. So i sniffed my brand name beans and there is the same odor but very faint. So i dont know if this is from processing or something else? I am making vanilla extract fr9m half the beans so that will take a week, i will have to use 1 of these beans in something fresh so i can compare.Update: I used the beans they are very fresh with a good flavor, made good vanilla icecream. I researched the smell, it is appearantly from vacuum packing them. They develop a phenol type of smell. The article said to take them out of the plastic and wrap them in wax paper and then in a little cardboard box. However they will dry out in a few months.
