I had a Himalayan Salt lamp that I had on all day every day for 18+ (?) months; then one day the dimmer switch just melted down - literally. I tried to turn it on, & smelled that "burned electric" smell, and the plastic housing had melted down on one side. I ordered this replacement from Amazon when it was out of stock, & waited about a month for it. When it finally arrived, less than five minutes elapsed from when I cut open the Amazon package to when this item - the actual dimmer switch - BLEW UP on my hand. Literally. I'd plugged it in, inserted a bulb, and BAM! Small sparks and a big popping noise scared the bejesus out of me. My whole room smelled of that burned electrical smell for at least 20 minutes.I've subsequently done a lot of looking & as much research as I can. I hate to throw away my beautiful salt lamp - for several reasons - but paying about 40% of the price of a new one just for a substandard and dangerous cord-and-dimmer-switch replacement doesn't make much sense. I've spent several hours looking on many different websites & at many different merchants. About all I can reliably determine is that these cords w/the rotating dimmer switches - be they the one original to the lamp or one of these replacements - are made in Pakistan. There is no American (or other legitimate) lamp parts & supplies company that makes/sells a similar cord; all "legitimate" cords, the ones that are "UL Listed", have a simple On/Off switch. No dimmers - at all. I must've looked at fifteen companies minimum. So what I gather from everything I've read is that: 1) there's something inherently "wrong" with the idea of an inline dimmer switch. They draw too much power, or need more substantial materials than can be put in such a small switch, or SOMEthing. These just clearly aren't reliable. 2) If it was possible to make a reliable, safe cord with a dimmer switch, why aren't any companies outside of Pakistan making them? I'm quite sure they'd be a really popular item. 3) It's not possible to find the name of the company in Pakistan that makes these. If anyone can find that info, I'd love it if they would share it. I have my doubts that however & wherever these are made, they're not being made by a legally legitimate enterprise. 4) Many sellers will put "UL Listed" in their product description; but if it's made in Pakistan by a nameless company, how can it be "UL Listed"? Who's inspecting the facility, the process, the products to insure they meet UL Listed standards? I'm not buying that for a second; I believe that info to be patently false. 5) And finally, there's NEVER A WARRANTY on these items - EVER. Many merchants don't even have Return Policies. Amazon and some big name companies will give refunds to their customers, but that's just good business practice that huge retailers can afford. So... I'm left trying to decide whether to throw out a perfectly good & very nice piece of Himalayan salt, or try to find a replacement for this cord & socket configuration that doesn't have a dimmer function, or just go out & buy another lamp and see how long it lasts. I REALLY don't like being put in this position, but I don't see an alternative. **Q: I purchased full lamp. recently the light went out. bought new bulbs and still isn't working. multi-meter shows power? what do i do?** A: I bought the replacement switch a few months back. It stopped working in 2 month. Put a meter on it and it shows power but, not connect to the bulb. The base if very brittle and small chunks of plastic keep breaking off. Want to know how I can get a refund or a replacement. **Q: Is it normal that this cord makes a buzzing sound? My other cords didn't. I ordered 2 and they both make noises.** A: I don't have that kind of on/off switch nor that kind of cord, but I wouldn't think it should make any noise. **Q: would it work also for model 1000?
