I'm looking to give as a 21 year (aged) birthday gift.** A: Thanks for the great question. The small barrels do age a lot quicker than a traditional size bourbon barrel. For the 3-Liter size barrel is will take about 90 Days to age the equivalent of 1 year in a full size barrel. Therefore an equivalent 21 year aged batch would take 5 years and a few months. However, to age a single batch for that long is typically not recommended due to natural evaporation. Evaporation rates can vary, so it is difficult to predict the max amount of time that bourbon can age and give you the quality you are looking for. Perhaps trying for a 12 year aged equivalent first and sampling a small amount as it progresses would be a good start. Feel free to contact us with any further questions. The beer will go flat since it's not air tight and the beer won't benefit from the Oak aging. **Q: Can this be used as you would a decantor instead of brewing?** A: Great question, yes the Oak Barrel can be used for temporary storage and serving of existing bourbon, whiskey or other spirits. The longer the spirit remains in the barrel, the more oak flavor the spirit will inherit. Many of our customers use our barrels to further "age" existing spirits.
