The lid is quite hard to get on and off, but I think that's true of a lot of these cups, and I would rather that than my daughter be able to remove it herself or it come off when being thrown. It has a trick to open and close but once you learn it you have it! Also, that is the reason it is so very leak proof! I've read that it is hard to suck but same again, the silicone valve is also leak proof! But we never had problems, daughter could use it straightaway (was breastfeeding still when first used it).
