They are particularly brilliant for sausages because when you get the fat flaring, just lift the tray off - nice and easy. I also use them as food trays to keep cooked food warm. They are cheap enough, so ditch after use, saves on the cleaning chores.Also, can I suggest you either get a stainless steel plate which you can lay on the grill. Fantastic for the burgers, mushrooms and onions - have even cooked bacon and eggs using it. Then just wipe off the worst of it and stow away until the next time. If your hot plate is of the fitted type, use a wire brush for the worst of the rust, then heat it up and add some cooking oil - then use a scraper to take the remaining rust and burnt bits off. When you finish using it, clean off the worst of it, then use a bit of kitchen paper to rub in some cooking oil, it will protect it - so, on and so on. Happy BBQ'ing this sunny weekend. **Q: can these be used for hiking or camping e.g. cooking on a open fire** A: Yes. I use them on my bbq all the time. However, I recommend you have a grill/rack under them rather than straight onto the coals as this will keep them firm and in shape. If you are camping, borrow a rack out of your oven - works wonders. They are particularly good for placing kebab sticks on and ideal for sausages. Depending on the sausages, a certain amount of liquid fat will build up, and if it ignites, just lift the tray off the bbq till the flame goes down. Pour off any excess fat. This is far better than trying to take individual sausages off the grill. They cook the vegetables or meat safely, letting it have the cooked on charcoal flavour, without the risk of everything falling into the fire. Even if you are doing kebabs and some of the softer things srart to fall off the skewer, at least they remain on the tray and you can eat them. Very pleased. We (penny pinchers!) even managed to wash a couple and use again.
