One really big pouch in the middle, a zippered pouch inside, and a tiny zippered pouch on the outside. There are also three small, deep pockets accessible from the inside; perfect for tickets, sunglasses, etc. The bag smelled a little vinyl-y when I first received it, but it seems to have off-gassed so there's no plasticy smell anymore. The long strap is adjustable so you can find that perfect length to carry it more like a messenger bag. Note: Neither the handles nor the strap come off; this means if you're carrying it by the handles, the strap will be dangling, and when you carry it by the strap, the handles are still there.
