I didn’t need the magnetic aspect of the base, I just put the fan by my bedside and that was perfect. Although now my husband is trying to steal it from me. I guess I’ll have to get him his own fan for the next cruise. As far as noise goes I can just barely hear the motor when the fan is on but for me that noise functioned as ‘white noise’, it did not bother me at all. Yes, it is one more thing to pack, but for me, the fan made a difference. I think I will just start including this fan in my suitcase whenever I travel. I highly recommend.
