Practice aiming first though! *by B***N on March 6, 2017* Worth every dollar. The mechanism is top quality, once lined up, virtually painless. The most difficult part is getting the piercing stud and back inserted without contaminating it; however, it's a simple thing to get a cotton swab to clean the post and ear lobe before activating the Studex. It is a very good idea to practice on the thick cardboard practice ear before punching holes in your head. I found that no matter how carefully I liked up the point, the gun always shot high, between 2-3 mm higher than I was aiming. I did my ear lobes to correct poorly spaced previous piercings and found it to be much easier than anticipated. I do have to admit that the first couple of tries were way too high, and I removed the stud immediately, cleaned it, and was ultimately successful in getting the stud exactly where I wanted it. Yes, there are a couple of extra holes now, but they have not presented any issues (infection and the like) . Practice with the cardboard ear until you get comfortable with your aim and your particular Studex tool. Some might shoot high, low, left or right but practice will eliminate accidentally punching holes in the wrong spot. There are other piercing tools available at lower prices, but some reviews indicate sticking or jamming; you won't find that with the Studex.
