If the smell is too much for you, you can adjust the top to be anywhere from fully open to fully closed. The container is heavy duty so I don't worry about it breaking. The product turns to gel so I don't worry about it spilling. The seller is amazing as well. I had a question about this and their other products, and sent an email on Friday night. That night around 11:30 pm, I received a response. Dan sent me his phone number. I would never call anyone that late, so I followed up on Monday. He sent me more information and offered to do whatever he could to help. Their website shows that Beckart handles company and municipality wastewater treatment. If the extended release continues to work, I intend to try the fast acting shock treatment. The variables with odors and molds are so numerous that I can't say 100% that this will work for you. That room has a distinct "animal" smell from my elderly cat who doesn't groom, not like cat litter or anything, just a musky animal funk. For about a week prior to their visit, I had this thing going, it has a slight pool scent if you sniff it (don't do that, it's chlorine!) but otherwise the rest of the room smelled like nothing.
