The basic notebook quality is up to par with my other Moleskine experiences, but it seems like I got a strange international version for some reason.Under "Product Details," the only language listed is English. And in the product pictures, I can see that the only language was English (only English days of the weeks, only English months of the year). Yet I received a book that is an odd combination of both English and French. Everywhere text/printing appears, information is printed in both languages. "Tuesday/Mardi," it says, for instance, for a day of the week. Or, "APRIL/AVRIL," it says for the month.If it wasn't for the coincidence that I happened to take French classes a couple years during my childhood, I'd probably be more confused or lost. As it is, it's merely an inconvenience that so much space is wasted on repeating so much text.Also, the calendar doesn't have any of the standard holidays pre-printed in the appropriate days. I've used Moleskine planners in the past (their large daily ones, not an extra large weekly version), and they always had standard holidays listed. I'm assuming this one doesn't have holidays simply because it's a specialty multi-national version, so they don't want to waste space on one country's holidays that the other country doesn't really observe? Or perhaps they just have too much of a crunch for space (thanks to it being a thin weekly planner, as well as because of all the space wasted by repeating everything in multiple languages), and couldn't afford to devote any space to holidays? In either case, it's inconvenient. Half the benefit of buying a pre-printed planner (as opposed to buying a blank notebook and filling in the dates and holidays yourself) is that it comes with as many useful items of information as possible.Lots of the fluff in the front of the book is useless, too. I guess it's just part of Moleskine's "charm" or "tradition," but it's fairly useless. Really need to waste pages on international dialing codes? Waste pages on flight durations? Waste pages on conversion charts for international clothing sizes? I get that these things seem like fancy-pants things that a fancy-pants Moleskine buyer might theoretically have use for, but these are also the kinds of things that you would use so rarely that it seems silly to waste valuable real-estate in a planner.I like the basic quality of Moleskine products. And I especially like the "soft cover" versions lately. I also like the extra large size as opposed to the large or the pocket sizes. That's why I gave it anything beyond 1 star. But the surprise of this not being the entirely "English" product I was expecting (added to the lack of holidays and things you expect from a calendar/planner) was my first real disappointing experience with Moleskine. I feel a little misled, I guess. No idea from the product details or images that my planner would be an odd English+French combo.I'd have returned the item if I had ordered/received it earlier, but I found myself coming up on the time of year when I needed to make notes of plans and appointments, so I decided to just stick with it. I like that the Extra Large size is uniform with my Extra Large Cranberry Red Cahier Journals, which I use for classes. I also think having an weekly planner, where the week is laid out on a single page, helps for those who need to look at things in advance without flipping through too many pages. I can quickly glance over the week for any upcoming assignments that are due. The notes page which mirrors each week is brilliant. For the extra details that you want to write in the planner, you can just footnote to the notes section. Other great features is the bookmark, and back slip folder. Construction is sturdy while the design is quintessentially Moleskine.
